Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport is located 17 km northeast of Makassar and operated by PT. Angkasa Pura I. The new terminal was opened on 20 August 2008. This airport is the main gateway for flights to the eastern part of Indonesia, and named after Sultan Hasanuddin, a Sultan of Gowa, who fought against the Dutch East India Company in the 1660s.
Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport is located on the border of Makassar, and Maros, a suburb in South Sulawesi, approximately 15 minutes (17 km) from Makassar city via Toll way or 25 minutes (23 km) via regular road.
